We Need to be Found in the Book of Remembrance

Shortly after I began taking the scriptures more seriously and literally and understanding the doctrine of the three watches, I began to wonder what saints of our generation should be doing. After all, it became apparent that the law of God that had been revealed through Joseph Smith in Section 42 had been broken.

The fulness of the gospel had been rejected.

The fulness of the priesthood had been takem from among the saints

The church that had come forth out of the wilderness had fled back into the wilderness.

The saving ordinances of the gospel were no longer available in their fulness.

Waiting and Watching

When the Savior told his apostles that he would come as a thief in the night three different times before his final coming in glory, he admonished them to be found waiting and watching for his secret return. I also knew from the scriptures that during this interim time prior to the last restoration, referred to as a little season, we need to be studying God’s word so that we will avoid being deceived when the time comes for the wise to take the holy spirit as their guide when the offer is extended by the true servants of the Lord.

Nevertheless, I had been wondering if there is anything else that we need to be doing to have our names and actions recorded in heaven.

It later became evident to me that we need to be searching the scriptures. But I continued to wonder if there is anything else.

One of the sections of scripture that I believe addresses this topic is found in the 12th chapter of Daniel. Leading up to chapter 12, chapter 11 refers to the general time frame that we are living in and about to transition into is called the “time of the end

Chapter 12 begins with three passages that are very revealing:

1 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.3 And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.
4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

These passages inform us that at the time of the end, Michael will stand up. During this timeframe there will be a time of trouble in the world which will be the greatest time of trouble that the world has ever witnessed. It is during this time that God’s people will be delivered just prior to or during the time of great tribulation.

Interestingly, these people that will be delivered during the time of trouble will be identified by virtue of the fact that their names will be “written in the book.

Hmm. Which book?

Can we get into the book during a time when we cannot get our calling and election made sure, or enjoy the second comforter, which always follows AFTER getting one’s calling and election made sure?

More on that in a minute.

Blessed are those the Wait

Later in this chapter we are informed that the righteous will be purified, made white and tried while the wicked will do wickedly. Those that are wise shall understand-

10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.
12 Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days.

Those that wait are blessed.

What does that mean? I suspect that it refers to a time of great deception where false prophets are seducing the gullible and foolish who don’t search and understand the scriptures, to join heretical movements that offer a false promise of Zion and salvation.

I have noticed that there are lots of fringe Mormons that frantically run around getting involved in lots of false religious movements. I even know of a man that sustains Denver Snuffer as a prophet of God at the same time that he is promoting Mauricio Berger and Joseph F. Smith as prophets of God.

I am mystified that he can believe in and follow two different movements that are clearly teaching conflicting narratives and being led by different false spirits and false prophets that are receiving contrary revelations. One movement claims that Zion will be established in Missouri, the other movement claims it will not be established in Missouri! The other differences are too numerous and off topic to mention. Clearly, each movement is getting their revelation from a different god.

People who are confused and anxious often use the shotgun approach, hoping to be found among the correct splinter group by virtue of the fact that they have joined all of them. They remind me of people that run around joining every new multi-level pyramid scheme hoping to be in the one that explodes and makes them wealthy.

But the parable of the ten virgins that is subliminally imbedded in the above passages in Daniel informs us that the wise shall wait for the true servants because they understand. No need to cover their bases by prematurely joining every group there is.

Those that Fear the Lord and Speak Often
to Others that Fear the Lord

But what about the book that is mentioned in the twelfth chapter of Daniel? How do we get in it? While reading one of G.azelems disruptive musings I was reminded of a passage of scripture in the Malachi 3 that I had blogged about years ago. Frankly, this passages blows my mind:

16 ¶ Then they that feared the Lord spake often one to another: and the Lord hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the Lord, and that thought upon his name.

17 And they shall be mine, saith the Lord of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.

18 Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.

Unbe-freakin-lievable!

The Lord overheard those that feared him and spake often one to another!

Their names were written in the Book of Remembrance for that express reason.

Calling and Election and receiving the Second Comforter (which ALWAYS follows AFTER Calling and Election) is not a prerequisite for getting into the Book of Remembrance!!

What a fascinating and revelatory passage.

It sheds additional light on the above passages in Daniel about the importance of being wise and having understanding during a time of apostacy, but it takes it one step further. It informs us that during the very time that we are living in, we can get our names written in the BOOK OF REMEMBRENCE by fearing the name of the Lord and speaking with others often that also fear the Lord.

By doing a keyword search with the phrase “make up my jewels” we find that it also addresses why the saints of the failed Zion of the LDS restoration will still be “spared” at the time that Christ returns to make up his jewels in the 3rd watch.

Compare the above passages in Malachi with the promise of God to the saints that failed in their attempt at Zion-

1 Verily I say unto you, concerning your brethren who have been afflicted, and persecuted, and cast out from the land of their inheritance—

2 I, the Lord, have suffered the affliction to come upon them, wherewith they have been afflicted, in consequence of their transgressions;

3 Yet I will own them, and they shall be mine in that day when I shall come to make up my jewels.

4 Therefore, they must needs be chastened and tried, even as Abraham, who was commanded to offer up his only son.

People that feared the Lord and thought upon his name and spake often to others that feared his name, are entered into a book of remembrance to be made jewels at a later time.

Those are the qualifying points of being entered into that particular book of remembrance. Calling and election sure is not requisite for getting into that book. Being among those that successfully establish Zion is not requisite for getting into the book.

Those that feared the Lord during an unsuccessful group attempt at Zion, or even during a time when the fulness and the saving ordinances were not on the earth can have their names entered into the book.

Make no mistake about it, calling and election is critical before the 3rd watch comes to an end. But it comes at the proper time.

Ultimately consecration during this probation is essential. We are informed in Lectures on Faith and other places in the scriptures that we must be a gathered and consecrated people during the final restoration BEFORE this probation is over.

Section 85 also speaks of the Book of Remembrance. It informs us that you must first be in the book BEFORE you can receive an inheritance when consecration takes place.

9 And all they who are not found written in the book of remembrance shall find none inheritance in that day, but they shall be cut asunder, and their portion shall be appointed them among unbelievers, where are wailing and gnashing of teeth.

It warns that during times when the fulness is on the earth and consecration is administered by true servants of God, you must be willing to consecrate or you cannot have your name enrolled.

3 It is contrary to the will and commandment of God that those who receive not their inheritance by consecration, agreeable to his law, which he has given, that he may tithe his people, to prepare them against the day of vengeance and burning, should have their names enrolled with the people of God.

It promises us that one mighty and strong will return and set in order the house of God and arrange their inheritances:

7 And it shall come to pass that I, the Lord God, will send one mighty and strong, holding the scepter of power in his hand, clothed with light for a covering, whose mouth shall utter words, eternal words; while his bowels shall be a fountain of truth, to set in order the house of God, and to arrange by lot the inheritances of the saints whose names are found, and the names of their fathers, and of their children, enrolled in the book of the law of God;

8 While that man, who was called of God and appointed, that putteth forth his hand to steady the ark of God, shall fall by the shaft of death, like as a tree that is smitten by the vivid shaft of lightning.

We have been given an unconditional promise that God’s anointed servants from Joseph Smith’s first commission will return to gather, prepare and consecrate God’s people and prepare them for the day of tribulation and desolation:

7 And ye are called to bring to pass the gathering of mine elect; for mine elect hear my voice and harden not their hearts;

8 Wherefore the decree hath gone forth from the Father that they shall be gathered in unto one place upon the face of this land, to prepare their hearts and be prepared in all things against the day when tribulation and desolation are sent forth upon the wicked.

9 For the hour is nigh and the day soon at hand when the earth is ripe; and all the proud and they that do wickedly shall be as stubble; and I will burn them up, saith the Lord of Hosts, that wickedness shall not be upon the earth;

Praise God for the holy scriptures that we have inherited from the latter day foundation movement that took place during Joseph Smith’s first commission! Praise God for technology that enables us to miraculously sift through the millions of people on this earth to find other people that fear the Lord so that we can speak often with them about the Lord and his miraculous work.

    Watcher, thank you for illuminating Malachi 3:16!!!!!
    I am familiar with make up my jewels in the D&C but somehow missed the connection and the all important Game changer verse 16 !!!!!
    Sometimes the world gets on top of me and the pressure squeezes out the joy. Every day I get someone new that drives down my lane to teach and sow the word. But sometimes it doesn’t feel like I am doing enough to further His work and possibly qualify my name to be included in the book.

    • I think this connection really is a game changer in understanding the possibilities and responsibilities of our current situation.

      Although I had blogged about the Malachi passage years ago, I too had not connected the dots between Malachi and what is said in the D&C

      No matter how many times you go to the well, there is always new water to be enjoyed 😉

    • BTW there is another keyword link to Section 85 which I just added to the post. It provides added clarity

        Malachi is obviously an important book as Moroni quoted portions to Joseph when he came, and also Jesus gave the book to the Nephites when he came. A book of remembrance is also mentioned in Moses 6:
        5 And a book of remembrance was kept, in the which was recorded, in the language of Adam, for it was given unto as many as called upon God to write by the spirit of inspiration;

        6 And by them their children were taught to read and write, having a language which was pure and undefiled.

        7 Now this same Priesthood, which was in the beginning, shall be in the end of the world also.

        8 Now this prophecy Adam spake, as he was moved upon by the Holy Ghost, and a genealogy was kept of the children of God. And this was the book of the generations of Adam, saying: In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;

        It seems that the book of remembrance was genealogy of those who were ready to receive the fullness of the priesthood. Which is similar to section 85 where it mentions that the genealogy of those who will inherit zion is to be kept. The book of remembrance also contains scripture apparently. So, perhaps it will come forth when Joseph returns.

        Also since we need to share with each other more I wrote a few blog posts in December that I felt I should write: https://sauloftooele.wordpress.com/

      • Great observations Saul thanks for sharing

    Oh man this is great stuff! I’m facilitating a discussion tonight on the end chapters of 3 Nephi and we will be covering 3 Nephi 24. I have been doing word searches all day connecting different verses of scripture to this chapter and also came across what you documented here about those who will be “jewels” and made the same connection in D&C 101! Then I checked my email right now and saw the notification about this post and here we are. I’m grateful for your testimony and the desire to share what you search and find. I’m also grateful for the Lord’s guiding hand in all of this and how everything lines up perfectly.

    I sure hope commenting on blogs is considered speaking often, one to another. 🙂

    This scripture you quoted :

    Therefore, they must needs be chastened and tried, even as Abraham, who was commanded to offer up his only son

    In my mind just reinforces the concept of being handed over to Satan as a people. I believe Abraham was in a Job type situation where Satan was advocating for certain testing. I don’t think these people will be asked to sacrifice their children – rather they will have to refuse Satan and his ways. I know it’s been humbling for me personally as I’ve rejected the traditions of my fathers.

  6. Jason Keetch says:

    I like the part in here that talks about those “that thought upon his name” How often each day do you naturally think of God? Do you naturally think of him like we do food, or entertainment, or women, or our kids, or sleep, or whatever. Good questions to ask ourselves.

  7. Tulan G says:

    Thank you. Very interesting information, and comments also informative.

    The Second Annointing has always bothered me. Only a select group of people get it which, in my thinking, goes against what we are taught about God and Christ.
